What radon mitigation costs
HomeAdvisor's national figures put a typical radon system at $771 to $1,185. Here's what moves the price for your house.
Typical prices by method
HomeAdvisor's national figures put a typical system at $771 to $1,185, with a national average of $978 (2022). Bob Vila's cost guide breaks it down by method. EPA calls sub-slab suction the most common method.
| Method | Typical cost | Where it's used |
|---|---|---|
| Sub-slab depressurization | $800–$2,500 | Basements and slabs. The most common fix. |
| Sealed sump pit suction | $800–$2,500 | Basements with a sump pit |
| Drain tile suction | $800–$1,700+ | Houses with drain tile around the footings |
| Block wall suction | $1,500–$3,000 | Hollow block foundation walls |
| Crawl space membrane | $800–$3,000 | Dirt or gravel crawl spaces |
Ranges by method from Bob Vila's 2022 radon mitigation cost guide. Prices in 2026 may be higher. Your written estimate is what counts.
What raises or lowers the price
- Your foundation. A single poured slab is the simplest. Block or stone walls, crawl spaces and additions with their own slab can each need more work.
- Where the pipe can run. An outside wall route is often simpler than running pipe up through finished rooms to the attic.
- Sealing. Open sump pits, floor drains and large cracks need sealing for the fan to work well.
- Power for the fan. The fan needs an electrical connection near where it's mounted.
Running costs
The fan runs around the clock. HomeAdvisor puts the added electricity at $30 to $300 a year, depending on the fan and your rates.
Comparing estimates
EPA suggests getting more than one estimate and asking for references. We'll start you with one certified mitigator, and you're always free to compare. When you look at an estimate, ask:
- Is the installer certified by PA DEP? Ask to see the current DEP ID card.
- Where will the pipe, fan and vent go?
- Is a post-installation radon test included?
- What warranty comes with the fan and the work?
